Dolgoch Falls is a series of three waterfalls tumbling through a mossy, wooded ravine in southern Eryri (Snowdonia), just a few miles inland from Tywyn. A well-signposted circular walk of around a mile links the Lower, Middle and Upper Falls, taking most visitors 45 minutes to an hour and a half depending on how long you linger — and you'll want to, with rock pools to explore and several caves along the route. The walk starts from the small pay-and-display car park beside the Dolgoch Falls Hotel on the B4405 (around £2 for four hours), and the lower falls are easily accessible from here — the paths to the middle and upper falls involve steps and can be steep, muddy or slippery underfoot, especially after rain, so sturdy footwear is worth packing. Fittingly, the falls are at their most dramatic in wet weather, when the water thunders through the gorge. It's also directly on the Talyllyn Railway, with Dolgoch station just 200m from the trailhead, so you can combine the walk with a ride on the historic steam railway from Tywyn Wharf. A nice piece of trivia: the falls featured in the 1994 Jimmy Page and Robert Plant music video for 'No Quarter'.
